XKR-S vs. GT-R?

Nissan GT-R vs. Jaguar XKR-S on Top Gear Set
You better believe it! I, on the other hand, don't know how the Jag will keep up with the Nissan given it's acceleration time and grip advantage, but it should be something exciting to look forward to. Also, Mr. Bean, Johnny English, and McLaren enthusiast Rowan Atkinson will be the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car. Not to mention the team try to make train travel better by hitching carriages on the backs of cars. The new episode airs this Sunday at 8 PM on BBC HD and BBC 2.

P.S: Rumors have been running around forums and wiki sites that Mr. Big Brit, Simon Cowell, will be returning to Top Gear. Legend has it that he's posted one the fastest laps in both the Liana and the Lacetti. So expect him reaching the top in the Cee Apostrophe D, dethroning the Liverpool comedian, John Bishop. Also, it's official: Jeremy Clarkson will be driving the Jaguar XKR-S and the Nissan GT-R, but you can still vote and tell everyone who you want to be reviewing the cars.

Kitty Meets Stiggy

2012 Jaguar XKR-S
Jaguar has just confirmed that this Sunday's Top Gear will feature the new Jaguar XKR-S. The car is still the most powerful Jag to date with a 5.0-liter 550 horsepower Supercharged V8 engine. The XJ220 only had 542. It will do 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 186 MPH, but, with the limiter off, it will go much faster. So, we already know that The STIG will get his hands, or paws, or whatever he has, on the new Jag, but who'll review it? Obviously not James May since this car, quite frankly, is too fast for a man from 1949. Jezza could do it, but he just did a review on the brilliant McLaren MP4-12C. So, since Hammond hasn't done a review of a car on the track yet, it's most likely that he'll do it, but I may be wrong. What do you think? Check the poll on my Facebook page and vote.

The Prince of the Top Gear Test Track

2012 McLaren MP4-12C
You guys remember that rumor of the McLaren going almost a second faster than the king of the Top Gear test track, the Ariel Atom 500 V8? Well, it's not true. But, don't count McLaren out for a second. It might not be faster than an Atom 500 or more exciting than its rival, the 458 Italia. But, it's more comfortable, more scientific, more powerful, and, in a straight line, faster than both of them. On the track, new STIG took the MP4-12C and set a valid time of 1:16.2, just 1.1 seconds more than the Atom 500. So it really isn't an Atom Smasher as I've described it before. But, it is a Ferrari killer as it was proved to run almost 3 seconds faster than it. Well done McLaren. Anyway, the other exciting things that happened on Top Gear...

2011 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 3-Door
...James does some proper Rovering in the new Rover Evoque...

Sebastien Vettel and The STIG
...the X1 Xpert, Sebastien Vettel, breaks more records in the Reasonably Priced Liana...

Hamster and Jezza in the Countryside
...and Richard and Jezza spend some time talking to elderly people, all here on Top Gear.
Watch the episode below and tell me what you think of it.

...Richard Squeals like a mouse in the Fiat 500C Abarth...

Even More Top Gear Madness

Captain Slow and the Aston Martin Virage Coupe
The new series of Top Gear is almost here and, to whet your appetite even more, another trailer has been released. It features James May practicing drifting in the all-new Aston Martin Virage. Also, we see Clarkson make an absolute humiliation of the Ferrari 458 Italia and Lewis Hamilton in the Atom Smasher, the McLaren MP4-12C. Then, we see Clarkson and Hammond do some car forensics on an old Mercedes-Benz CL600 and BMW 850i. But wait! There's more. Captain slow executes a speed run in the new ProDrive Mini Countryman WRC Rally Car, Clarkson and Hammond find the perfect used sports car, and Hammond squeals like a mouse when driving at 100 MPH at the Monaco Grand Prix circuit in his Fiat 500 Abarth Convertible. So, basically, all of the usual has returned. This should be exciting. The series begins this Sunday on BBC HD and BBC 2.

More Top Gear Madness

Top Gear
So, a brief teaser was released today from BBC 2 showcasing some of the nonsense those three petrolheads have been up to for the new season of Top Gear. First, we see Jezza taking the possible Atom Smasher, the MP4-12C, for a spin. Then, Captain Slow aides as a co-driver for the new Mini Countryman WRC rally car. Also, Jezza's new bestfriend, Olympic Gold-medalist Amy Williams returns for a car vs. man challenge. We also see Jezza and Hamster embarrasing themselves in a used Porsche Boxster in the countryside. But, wait. There's more. Hamster decides to do some damage in a supposed "family tank", and the three race on the Monaco Grand Prix circuit in a Citroën DS3 Racing, Renaultsport Clio, and a Fiat 500 Abarth Essesse along side F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone. This all sounds unbelievably exciting. Take a look at the trailer for yourself and be here June 26 when the series 17 premieres on BBC HD and BBC 2.

And We're Back...

Top Gear
Top Gear's back and better than ever. It has recently been confirmed that your favorite British petrolheads will be back on the tele on Sunday June 26 on BBC HD and BBC 2. Recent commentary from Captain Slow states that the new series will include performance cars, some electric cars, some actual racing, some proper demolition, some silly cars, and Top Gear's attempt to improve public transport. Or, put simply, the usual. Recently, the crew was spotted in Monte Carlo testing some hatchbacks, which James found intimidating, which to us, is intriguing. I'm genuinely excited about this new season because there are a couple of new sports cars out there that Jezza, Hamster, and even Captain Slow need to have a look at. First off, there's Ferrari's newest four-door GT hatchback, the FF. Then, there's Pagani's newest creation, the Huayra. Last, but not least, there's McLaren's newest threat, the MP4-12C, in which was rumored to have put in the fastest lap times on the track beating the Ariel Atom 500 by a mere second. Let's see if this rumor is true. Of course, you'll see more Top Gear action including more superior driving skills from his majesty The STIG.

Beetle Mania!

2012 VW Beetle (New York)
It seems the new Bug has already made its way to the Big Apple. Today, VW officially revealed the all-new VW Beetle today in New York. A lot of Beetle fans turned up to look at the new Bug as it was presented by Klaus Bischoff, VW's head of design.

"We took the current Beetle and threw everything about it out the window and had the original Beetle in the studio when we started redesign in 2007" - Klaus Bischoff, VW's head of Design
It turns out a lot of people like the new Beetle. There were some people who said, "it doesn't look like a Beetle anymore." Yeah, that's what they said about the last one. But anyway, VW showed off two models of the Beetle, the standard model and the Turbo. It looks like the Turbo will carry VW's 2.0-liter 200 horsepower turbo-4 engine. And since it's a small car, expect it to be quite quick. VW's Global Marketing Director, Luca de Meo, says that thanks to the Beetle's new XDS electric front differential, it's more nimble and agile, it's like driving Herbie or a mosquito.
"the fact that the 200-horsepower turbocharged motor makes this a 'toy for a boy'; and the Fender audio that includes some first-time features such as the Panasonic technology in the tweeters." - Luca de Meo, VW Global Marketing Director
Basically what VW is trying to do is make the Beetle less feminine as it was back in Y2K. Of course, women may love it, but for men who love power, like I do, they hope that the new Beetle has enough to please them.
"We want to make a statement without making compromises, to get out of niche and into core demand in many markets, not just the States."- Luca de Meo, VW Global Marketing Director
So, all-in-all, the Beetle looks like it's one for the masses: a revolution of something that was ugly into something more streamlined. In my opinion, it looks like a bubbly Golf. There is some Golf-ness in this car that some people can't see. I'll take it for a test drive this fall. Top Gear so far says it's not half bad. The sporty styling they think is actually much better and the interior is top notch. I think Clarkson & Hammond have the deciding vote on this one. The all-new Beetle will come out this fall at a pretty decent price.
