2012 BAC Mono |
This might be a CGI image, but the car is real, and has enough capabilities to rival with the Ariel Atom. The Briggs Automotive Company, or BAC for short, have called this car the Mono, and like the Ariel Atom, it is a lightweight, F1-styled track toy. A 2.3-liter 280 horsepower Cosworth inline-4 engine powers the car from 0 to 60 in just 2.8 seconds and to a top speed of 170 MPH thanks to its 6-speed sequential transmission. Like the Atom, this is featherweight car only weighing about 1,190 lbs. (540 kg), 160 lbs. less than the standard atom, thanks to its carbon fiber body. Like the Atom, it will ruin your face because there's no protective window in front of you. Also like the Atom, it is quintessentially British. Unlike the Atom, BAC only plan to make 35 of these with 10 already spoken for. Which means, 25 Monos are left, each carrying the price tag of $106,825, or £66,625 if you live in Britain. The Atom is still on sale for about $48,000 if you live anywhere in world. So, if you're getting tired of your Ariel Atom or just want to see if it's still the best track toy, and you've got $110,000 to spare, you better hurry up and get one of these.
